Can the Site Light Be Used Outside?

Yes, The Site Light can be used on exterior construction sites.

Quipt's LED strip work lights are designed for tough conditions. Unlike many consumer-grade lights, they're built to withstand regular transport, setup and pack down, and the daily wear that come with demanding environments. Their heavy-duty construction makes them well suited to both indoor and outdoor applications where reliable temporary lighting is essential.

Before you set up your Site Light outdoors, here’s what you need to know.

Understanding the IP65 Rating

Both our Battery Operated LED Site Light and AC240V LED Site Light feature an IP65 rating.

This means they're protected against:

  • Dust ingress that could affect performance
  • Low-pressure water from any direction

For outdoor construction and maintenance projects, this provides peace of mind when working in dusty environments or where the lighting may be exposed to rain or water spray.

However, IP65 does not mean the light is waterproof or suitable for submersion. It should never be placed in standing water or used in conditions outside this specified rating, including:

  • Submerged or partially submerged in water
  • Heavy flooding or pooled water
  • High-pressure water blasting or pressure washing
  • Situations where connectors or electrical components may become immersed

Outdoor Applications

The Quipt LED Site Light can be used for:

  • Construction sites
  • Residential building projects
  • Commercial fit-outs
  • Roofing work
  • Exterior renovations
  • Temporary walkways
  • Scaffolding
  • Outdoor maintenance projects
  • Demolition sites

Because the flexible LED strip can be suspended overhead or hung from existing structures, it's easy to position light exactly where it's needed to get even, bright coverage throughout multiple work zones.

Battery or 240V?

The best option depends on your project.

The Battery Operated LED Site Light is ideal when:

  • There isn't access to mains power
  • You need to move frequently around the site
  • You're working in smaller areas
  • Convenience is a priority over brightness or length

The adjustable brightness settings also allow you to balance light output with battery runtime.

The original Plug & Play AC240V LED Site Light is better suited to:

  • Larger work areas needing up to 100m of coverage
  • Continuous operation throughout the day
  • Projects with mains power available
  • Long runs of uninterrupted lighting at full brightness

Usage Guidelines

To maximise the lifespan of your Site Light on exterior sites:

  • Avoid placing the light where it may sit in pooled water
  • Fully unroll the strip from the reel before powering up
  • Do not cover the strip with other materials while it’s on
  • Avoid using staples, nails, or anything that could puncture the strip itself
  • Avoid folding or creasing the light strip for extended periods while turned on

Make sure you follow all product instructions and applicable site safety requirements. Read more in our guide to Site Light safety.

Temporary site lighting often needs to perform in challenging environments, including exterior construction work.

Quipt's LED Site Lights are designed with these conditions in mind, combining heavy-duty construction, flexible installation, and reliable illumination to help keep worksites productive when natural light isn't enough.

Whether you're working indoors or outdoors, choose lighting that adapts to the job — not the other way around.
