Meet The Camping Light That Runs on Power Tool Batteries

Light up your campsite with Quipt's battery-powered LED strip lights. Portable, easy to store and powered by compatible 18V tool batteries.

If you've already got a collection of power tools in the garage, chances are you've also got a few rechargeable batteries lying around. But those batteries aren't just useful for drills, saws and other tools. They can also provide a convenient source of power for your campsite if you’re heading somewhere remote.

With better coverage than a torch, durability that outlives than your typical lantern, and a little more practical illumination than fairy lights, The Battery Site Light is the perfect addition to your setup.

Most camping setups involve some combination of torches, lanterns, headlamps and maybe a few decorative string lights around the awning. Each has its place, but illuminating your camp on a remote site is a different challenge.

A single lantern or torch only provides enough light in one spot. Fairy lights provide a soft glow that’s nice for ambiance, but not very practical.

That's where LED strip lighting offers something different. Rather than relying on a single light source, you can distribute illumination along its length. The result is more consistent coverage across the areas you're actually using, without needing multiple lights positioned around the campsite.

And when that strip lighting runs on an 18V power tool battery, you get the flexibility of portable lighting without needing electricity connection.

The Quipt Battery Site Light was designed for tradies, but when someone from our crew brought it away for the weekend we realised it was a game changer on campsites, too!

Running off an 18V Makita, DeWault or Milwaukee tool battery, you don't need a caravan electrical system or mains connection to use it. For many campers, going off-grid is part of the appeal.

The single-sided strip provides bright, evenly distributed light without being harsh on the eyes, making it ideal for areas where you're cooking, eating or relaxing after dark. Plus, with adjustable brightness, you can dial down the intensity when you don't need the full output — and this also extends the runtime.

You can mount it along awnings and shelters or around your 4WD and caravan for a flexible, adaptable setup.

And, with an IP65 rating, the lighting strip is designed to withstand dust and water exposure, making it a practical option for outdoor environments when used according to the product instructions.

As with any battery-powered light, runtime will vary depending on the battery capacity and brightness setting. For our Battery Site Light, a 6Ah battery provides approximately one hour of operation at full brightness, so planning your battery supply is particularly important for longer evenings.

When it's time to pack up, the 10-metre strip can be rolled back onto the drum for easy storage and transport. Unlike bulky floodlights, multiple lanterns, or those tangled balls of fairy lights, it takes up minimal space among your camping gear and is easy to move between sites. Whether you're travelling in a 4WD, caravan or simply packing the essentials for a weekend away, it's one less bulky piece of equipment to find room for.
