How to Set Up LED Strip Lights On Site

Proper lighting can make or break a job site, which is why we introduced The Site Light to Australian workers. These LED strip lights are a game-changer for dark construction sites and warehouses, achieving even full-length lighting that covers the entire space. Their flexibility, durability, and easy setup really ensures you get the most out of your site lighting. Here are the ways you can set up an LED light strip for the best results.

1. Hook or Tie Along Frames and Other Structures

Using lead hooks, ties, or clips, you can hang or secure the cable from frames and similar structures. These options are easy to undo and reposition, suitable for temporary lighting needs or dynamic job sites.

2. Mount Along Ceilings

Ceiling-mounted LED strips are ideal for long-term projects — especially during internal fit-outs or refurbishments where overhead access is available. Elevating the strip allows the light to spread over a wider area, and keeps it out of the way. We have multiple accessories you can use to secure it to beams or ceiling joists, including screw mounts. If working with concrete or steel, use adhesive-backed clips, magnetic mounts, or suspension cables.

3. Lead Stands

Coming Early 2026: The Site Light Lead & Stand Kit includes 4x height-adjustable poles that lock in securely between floor and ceiling — no drilling, no tools. Each stand features built-in hooks to neatly run your Site Light or power leads overhead and out of the way. Get notified when it lands.

4. Equipment-Free Options

The LED strip gives you options to illuminate areas where your mounting options are limited, for example you can hang it vertically down lift shafts or stairwells. Another equipment-free setup option is to run it through frames. If working around timber, this is an easy and instant setup solution (note it's not within guidelines to rest the LED cable on metal).

Common Questions About Setting Up The Site Light

Where should I set up my LED strip lighting?

Before setting up your light, take a moment to identify:

  • Dark zones and shadowed corners
  • High-traffic pathways with low natural light
  • Areas where detailed work will take place
  • Opportunities for elevated mounting i.e. hooking or wrapping along ceilings or higher structures

What cable length do I need?

We have 15m, 25m, and 50m cables — and you can always buy two of our cables in any size to connect them together (100m of length maximum). We also have 10m cables which are battery operated for small spaces without mains connection. Shop the battery operated construction site LED strip here.

The 15m cable is great in small areas such as attics and single rooms. The 25m and 50m cables are ideal for larger sites. To estimate how many metres of LED strip you'll need, go off the site dimensions. Keep in mind that wrapping the cable around structures, corners, or bend requires more length than a straight run.

Where’s best to position it — high or low?

Elevating the Site Light above the floor will increase its range and reduce obstruction. This also helps minimise ground-level clutter and spreads light more effectively over large areas. That being said, ground-level illumination along skirting boards is still a really great option if you’re low on time or need to work around overhead tools and structures.

Do I need to secure the power cables for the LED site light?

Yes. You should ensure all cables are safely routed to prevent tripping hazards — however, the Site Light’s power lead is long enough that you don’t need extension cords. It also plugs directly into standard 240V AC power outlets, eliminating the need for external transformers or power converters.
